What is technology? Where does it come from? What are its effects on society at large and on our individual lives in the past, the present and tomorrow?

This format is scheduled every month to provide a stimulus to discuss the impact of technology on our societies. Each session includes one surprise TED talk, a related film and a open follow up discussion.

- About the movie -
Director: Michael Radford
Language: English
Release date: 10 October 1984

The protagonist Winston Smith lives a squalid existence in a totalitarian state under the constant surveillance of the thought police. He works in an office called the Ministry of truth, rewriting history and doing propaganda in accordance with the dictates of the party. He also keeps a secret diary penning his private thoughts, thus creating evidence of his thought crime. His life takes a major turn when he meets a fellow outer party worker Julia and they begin an illicit affair. For a brief few months they secretly meet and enjoy an idyllic life of relative freedom and contentment together.
It comes to an end one evening, with the sudden raid of the Thought Police. They are both arrested.
