Our college’s Black Student Union and LGBTQ+ Alliance are coming together to create a day of unity on our campus on April 7th. First, we will have a panel to address racism and anti-blackness in the LGBT community, as well as anti-LGBT sentiment in the black community. We will then break into small groups to discuss some of the panel points in more depth and brainstorm potential ways we, as individuals and organizations, could address and attempt to solve these issues on our campus and beyond. After our morning discussion, we will move to the Cistern for an afternoon of celebrating the great talents in our community through performances and an open mic.
We cannot wait to share this day with the entire College of Charleston campus and the many organizations coming together to make this event happen!
