Pottery Workshop June 16, 23, and 30 from 1-4pm at the College of the Albemarle's Fine Arts Building in the pottery studio.
This will be an introductory pottery course led by artist Robin York. Students will learn pinch pot and slab build methods and also will have a chance to throw on the wheel. Students will also learn basic terminology to be able to understand the steps in pottery. Days 1 and 2 will be for building and throwing with day 3 used for finishing the glazing process.
All materials will be provided, however, working in clay can be messy so wear clothing you do not mind getting dirty. Prior to coming to class, look up images of pinch pots with relief carving and slab pots so that you will have ideas of what you might try to create.
Class is limited to 12 students (Veterans, Active-Duty Military, and their families). All levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced. Preregistration is required. You can register online at DareArts.org/workshops or by calling 252 473 5558.
Robin's dad was a Tech/Sgt specializing in marksmanship and he retired from the Air Force after 22 yrs. Robin is an adjunct teacher at COA and a retired art teacher from Manteo High School. Robin's work has hung in the NC Museum of Art and she has a few pieces in collections abroad. She has won both art and education awards, however, she says her greatest achievement has and will continue to be the gift of sharing creativity and the intrinsic value that comes with it.
