Participants will meet at the Collier County Law Enforcement Memorial in front of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Building J at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, April 13. The 4.8 mile run will start following remarks by Sheriff Kevin Rambosk at 7:50 a.m.
Several of our local Special Olympics athletes will run in the event, and others will be on hand to encourage the runners.
The runners will proceed to the City of Naples Police Department and then to Publix at 1981 U.S. 41 N.
The purpose of the Annual Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run is to raise both awareness and funds to support Florida Special Olympics. Publix is the biggest single yearly contributor to Florida Special Olympics and donates all Torch Run T-shirts that generate over 1.9 million dollars a year in donations. For this reason, we end our leg of the Torch Run at a local Publix Supermarket. At the end of the run we will gather for a quick photo with management of Publix and Torch Run participants.
We hope to see you on April 13th as we all show our support for Special Olympics Florida- Collier County. As usual our local Special Olympic athlete Michael Lynch will be leading the pack!
Athletes who you will attend the opening ceremonies at 7:45 am on April 13th should contact the Special Olympics office at 239-775-1991 by Friday, April 6th. Athletes should wear a Special Olympics shirt . The ceremony will last a few minutes and then the run begins. You can support the run along the route or just at opening ceremonies. Hope to see you all there.
