This workshop helps prepare volunteers and community members to address poverty more effectively. It is through the understanding of the issues of poverty that we can become more effective in removing barriers and helping families as they journey to self-sufficiency.
Bridges Out of Poverty provides concrete tools for a community to prevent, reduce, and alleviate poverty.
Materials used and strategies developed are focused on:
Moving individuals from poverty to self-sufficiency
Reducing social costs related to crime, poor health, and welfare
Strengthening educational attainment and job skills
Improving on-the-job productivity
Building a sustainable community where everyone can live well
Day 2 Workshop is a follow up workshop to Day 1 which presented a framework for understanding poverty and providing solutions for individuals, institutions and communities like ours. Day 2 focuses on practical applications of the principles presented in Day 1. It provides tools and introduces ways to apply Bridges to individuals, institutions and communities. The focus of our Day 2 is on the individual lense providing tools for interacting cross economic class. Getting Ahead will be introduced and invitiation to become a Local Ally for Getting Ahead Graduates. The last section of this workshop will include more information and training for our Allies for Change program, through which middle class allies are connected with graduates of our Getting Ahead program. Allies are members of the Getting Ahead graduates team and provide emotional support, encouragement and help breakdown barriers and build resources to create a stable future for the graduate and his/her family.
Day 1 is a prerequisite for this workshop.
