We are thrilled to present our ninth edition of Ecstatic Dance Philly. We welcome you to journey with us through sound and movement - with Atticus, founder and producer of Ecstatic Dance DC, as our guest DJ + sonic guide.
Flow into this Sunday for a sweet experience in community flow, exploring freeform movement at the Community Education Center (CEC) in University City / Powelton Village. All ages welcome (kids under 18 dance for free)! No movement or dance experience necessary; dance however you wish, exploring your own movement + meditation practice within this safe space. Join us after the dance from 3-4pm for a community potluck! ◂◂
Ecstatic Dancers enjoy a variety of freeform movement, such as solo or partnered dance, yoga or stretching, sound making, and contact improv. We provide a large mat for relaxation, and encourage folks to dance only if they are moved to in the moment. We explore the subject of consent, especially on the dance floor, within every opening circle.

* WHAT TO EXPECT *
Please arrive at or by 11:30AM to allow yourself ample time for check in at the door, and to settle in / warm up with us. Doors close at 12:30PM. * We will open our circle with an intro to Ecstatic Dance guidelines and etiquette. We will learn about this movement and meditation practice and will highlight the importance of consent within this space. * Our sonic guide + DJ, Atticus, of Ecstatic Dance DC, will then propel us into our Ecstatic Dance journey, within which we explore sound and movement. We finish our dance with a brief savasana (rest). * We close out as a group by circling up and sharing brief personal reflections. * After we gather our belongings and begin to chat with new friends, we will move into a downstairs room for a community potluck from 3-4pm. If you'd like to join us, please do bring your favorite healthy homemade food dish to share.
* ECSTATIC DANCE *
Ecstatic Dance is an accessible practice open to people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities, from every background, and from all corners of our city. Elders and children are always welcome. We provide a safe space for all folks who wish to engage in a practice guided by personal responsibility, mutual respect, and awareness.
Ecstatic Dance Philly is committed to providing a safe container for free-form solo and partnered movement and “conscious” dance. We are cultivating an intoxicant-free, respect-driven, consent-based dance culture and community for all those who accept these guidelines and wish to participate.
As a widespread movement, Ecstatic Dance is gaining momentum in cities around the world, and we are honored to bring this practice to our hometown, Philadelphia. We look forward to moving with you!
