In the mid-20th century British pediatrician and psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott developed the concept of a therapeutic “holding environment” to describe a nurturing mother (and home) “holding” a child in a loving, empathic and safe space that supports the child’s development.
We are spiritual friends practicing yoga together, extending to one another, and to newcomers, the generous supports so characteristic of Winnicott’s “holding environment”. Through compassionate listening, mutual respect, and mindful presence we are held together in support of the gradual unfolding of our deepest selves, the gradual realization that we are always held, and the gradual awakening to ourselves as the holding.
Each class begins with a 30-minute Wisdom Circle to explore our responses to a brief teaching, often in the form of a poem. Through the intimacy of hearing each other’s stories, the space to tell our own, and the integration of our stories and truths through yoga, we grow whole together. We welcome you.
