The CB Chalk Walk is the Center’s newest Visual Arts event! Join us for a day of temporary public art making where children through adults, as well as local artists, are invited to draw chalk masterpieces on the sidewalks surrounding the Center. Celebrate making art together with food, beverages, and live music. Spectating and merry making are free and open to the public.
Kids ages 5 and up are invited to participate in the CB Chalk Walk! To enter, purchase a 5’ x 5’ square for $5 in advance, or $8 the day of, and let your imagination run wild. Work alone or with friends to create your chalk work of art.
Squares are located along the sidewalk space in front of the Alpenglow Stage and on the sidewalk in front of the Center, along 6th Street from the tennis courts to the corner of 7th St. and Red Lady Ave. Four feet or more of sidewalk space along the Chalk Walk is left open for spectators to walk along, see the artwork artists and community members are creating, and admire the work after the event.
Those who enter to create a square will have a total of 4 hours from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to complete their work. From 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., a panel of judges will decide on winners in each age category based on originality of design, use of color, technical skill, and Best of Show. Watch the Professional: A professional artist, hired by the Center, will be onsite creating a commissioned piece for the event. Spectators and participants will have a chance to watch the artist at work, ask questions, and get inspired both during and after the 11:00 – 3:00 p.m. art creation time. This artist will not participate in the competition, or be judged by our panel, but will instead be paid to create a signature piece for the event.
Food and Beverage: Food and beverage vendors will be onsite from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Music: The live band (TBA) begins playing at 3:00 p.m. when judging begins. The band will take a set break when the winners in each category are announced and while sponsors are acknowledged and thanked. After that, the band starts up again and continues until 5:00 p.m.
