We welcome BAFTA-winning actor Vicky McClure, star of This is England (produced by Sheffield based Warp Films), as well as Line of Duty and The Replacement, to Sheffield Doc/Fest for the first time, to discuss her new BBC One series, Vicky McClure: My Dementia Choir. Produced by Curve Media, the series is deeply personal journey to discover the extent of music's power to fight dementia, with Nottingham-born Vicky, who has close personal experience of dementia through caring for her grandmother, joining forces with the University of Nottingham to form a unique choir for one unforgettable performance. Vicky will discuss the making of the programme, her role with the Alzheimer's Society and the ambition to leave a lasting legacy in our understanding of how music therapy can help people with dementia.
This talk will be a Dementia Friendly event. Like any event in Doc/Fest's programme, this means that it will be open to everyone: it's just that we will have the lights a little brighter than usual, and the sound lowered a touch. Extra visible signage will be displayed around the venue and staff trained as Dementia Friends will be on hand to offer help. Attendees are welcome to come and go as they please during the session and to invite a carer to accompany them free of charge.
