Jim Gash is a Professor and Associate Dean at Pepperdine Law in his nineteenth year of teaching, and serves as an Elder at the University Church of Christ.2010, Jim began traveling periodically to Uganda to help imprisoned juveniles waiting for their day in court.directs the Sudreau Global Justice Program and has returned to Uganda twenty-three times to help other juvenile and adult prisoners secure access to justice.
In March of 2013, Professor Gash became the first American ever to argue a case in the Ugandan Court of Appeals.appeal concerned the case of one of the juvenile prisoners he met on his first trip to Uganda.recognition of his ongoing work in Uganda, Professor Gash received the 2013 Warren Christopher Award, which is presented to California's International Lawyer of the Year.
Jim's book "Divine Collision: An African Boy, An AmericanLawyer, and Their Remarkable Battle for Freedom" was published in 2016 and tells the story of how his meeting a young prisoner changed both of their lives and transformed Uganda's criminal justice system.documentary called "REMAND" featuring Jim's work was released in 2017 and has won numerous film festivals.
