Put on something fun and festive and shake off the Winter Doldrums with the Delaware Valley Opera Company on April 21 as they present a grand evening of music, food and wine, “April Showers Bring Opera’s Flowers!”
This black-tie optional event features some of the opera company’s fine singers performing arias and ensembles that reflect spring’s stormy beginnings and floral finish. Selections by composers including Bizet, Delibes, Mozart, Puccini, Romberg, R Strauss and Verdi will be artfully interpreted by collaborative pianist John Dulik.
The festivities begin at 7pm in the recital hall at Cunningham Piano Company, 198 Allendale Road, King of Prussia, PA 19406.
The evening is a special fundraising event to support the company’s 2018 Summer Opera Festival. The annual opera festival consists of three fully staged operas performed with piano. The Delaware Valley Opera Company prides itself on offering opera to the region at an affordable price. Tickets for the festival have never been more than $25 in DVOC’s nearly 40-year history. This is no small feat, and the company is grateful for the generosity of donors and patrons who help cover the costs of costumes, props, and the rental of the state-of-the-art Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. This summer’s expenses include renting special lights, a very special backdrop, and constructing a barge for Puccini’s “Il Tabarro.”
DVOC is a not-for profit, all-volunteer organization that has produced more than 100 fully staged operas in its annual Summer Opera Festival. The Delaware Valley is rich with musical talent thanks to many nationally and internationally renowned universities and conservatories within its borders, and DVOC has made it a mission to provide performance opportunities for this pool of singers while keeping ticket prices low.
Tickets for “April Showers Bring Opera’s Flowers” are $50 and are available for purchase online at www.DVOpera.org, or via mail.
