We have one more slam before the championship slam on May 10, so come out tomorrow to read or cheer on your favorite poets!
This slam will be without judges so that all poets can practice their delivery for the championship. Even if you have only 1 or 2 poems ready, come read them for the applause. :-)
For anyone who hasn't been to one of our slams, yet: Slam poetry is both a literary and a performative genre. It weaves words and performance to create a powerful message. Poems are often about social, personal, and/or political issues. (They are not always appropriate for young children.)
Words on Fire slams are usually competitions in which up to 10 individual poets or groups compete for prizes and bragging rights. Slams are open to anyone in the area who wants to read or listen.
Keep in mind that both the poem and the delivery are important. A well-crafted poem delivered with energy/passion and personal style will score more points when judges are present.
REGISTRATION opens at 5:30PM.
ROUND 1 begins at 6:00PM.
