Modern Upholstery: Open Skills Workshop
Thursday, August 9 - Saturday, August 11, 2018Instructor: Cynthia Bleskachek
9:00 am - 5:00 pm with a 1-hour lunch on your own
*A minimum of 3 students must be registered by July 7, 2018 to hold this class

If you've tried some upholstery and are ready to explore new techniques, or refine your existing skills for professional purposes, this 3 day open workshop is for you. Choose a project that includes skills or techniques you're interested in understanding better (recommendations below). Our focus together will be comprehension and confidence - not necessarily completion.

Hands on education with a professional is a great way to supplement and enhance the self teaching and online learning you may already be exploring, AND it's a great way to connect with other serious hobbyists and aspiring professionals! If you have any questions at all, you are encouraged to contact Cynthia@thefunkylittlechair.com or Susan@workroomtech.com - we want you to make the most of your time at Workroom Tech!

Suggested project goals:

- foundation basics: Springs, webbing, burlap, padding etc for a chair. (Will require multiple days)

- Basic upholstery techniques: a very simple chair with simple fabric. (Learn about layout, tensioning, easement cuts, pleats and other critical, versatile skills)

-A single advanced technique: Attached cushion, channeling, kick pleat skirt etc (Expect multiple days for any of these)

- Planning for a pattern match: simple chair with no foundation work and a large repeat fabric (Basic upholstery experience STRONGLY recommended)

Every chair has something to teach us - when in doubt, please ask! You will also benefit from seeing a variety of projects around you, so don't feel like you have to try everything at once!

Pre-work or tear down may be required. Some basic tools and supplies are provided but check with the instructor to see what you will need to bring for your specific chair upholstery project.
