DOGTOOTH (KYNODONTAS):

Yorgos Lanthimos, the Greek director of 2015's critically-acclaimed picture 'The Lobster', crafts a darkly comic story of infantilisation and dysfunction with his second feature, 2009's Kynodontas, or Dogtooth. Three teenagers live isolated, without leaving their house, because their over-protective parents say they can only leave when their dogtooth falls out. Runtime: 94 mins.

ABOUT BRUNEL CINECLUB:

Brunel Cineclub is a new independently run film society based in Swindon and the South West. Our aim is to cater to both new audiences and local cinema stalwarts, presenting films which would otherwise not be shown in cinemas, through an organised programme of screenings at various locations. The team aim to show a variety of different films with various themes, artistic influences and aesthetics. Each film will be shown an hour after doors open, giving people time to get a drink, relax and settle in before our screenings. Discussion of our films is always encouraged both at our events and on social media and any inquiries will be answered through our Facebook page.

THE STORY:

The first UK film society was established in London,1925, by a group of film intellects and enthusiasts. Adrian Brunel (one of the people involved with London Film Society), was an English film director and screenwriter starting up in the silent era and reach his peak in the latter half of the 1920s. After decades of neglect, Brunel's work was rediscovered and has undergone a critical re-evaluation. His "lost" films are eagerly sought, and the British Film Institute includes two on its "75 Most Wanted" list of missing British feature films. The name Brunel Cineclub is a homage to both Adrian Brunel and his role in setting up the UK’s first film society as well Swindon’s rich historical connection with Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
