Born in Seoul, South Korea, Joel was adopted at a young age and moved to the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Both homeschooled and evangelical, Joel has read the bible literally dozens of times, and has no idea where the state of Oregon is on a map.
He has appeared on TBS's Conan— Twice! You can see both performances here and here. Be sure to check out the comments, they're half the fun! Other television appearances include Comedy Central's @MIDNIGHT and THE MELTDOWN WITH JONAH AND KUMAIL, Bravo's THEN AND NOW, Logo's COMEDY CABARET, and TruTV's COMEDY KNOCKOUT.
His COMEDY CENTRAL PRESENTS stand-up special premiered in the fall of 2017 and is available to stream here.
For television, his writing credits include BILLY ON THE STREET and the Comedy Central pilot, PROBLEMATIC W/ MOSHE KASHER, and the upcoming THE OTHER TWO, created and executive produced by Chris Kelley and Sarah Schneider.
Joel is a frequent collaborator on MTV's Decoded webseries, Bravo's Guide To..., Logo's #TheSoapBox, and regularly appears in a number of Internet Action Force shorts. He loves to chat.
As a comedian he has performed at numerous comedy clubs, bar basements and festivals all across the country. He has been featured at The Bridgetown Comedy Festival, RIOT LA, The Brooklyn Comedy Festival and The New York Comedy Festival, where he performed on Comedy Central's 7 Minutes In Purgatory show. Paper Magazine recently called him one of their "10 Comedians You Need to Know," and Brooklyn Magazine has named him one of their "50 Funniest People in Brooklyn," saying, "his unbridled honesty feels less like the set-up for a punchline and more like an act of selfless catharsis the rest of us are lucky to witness in real time."
