The fabulous Jane Hall of local band “House of Tarab” will be teaching drumming technique and foundation rhythms of Middle Eastern dance at Studio Deep Roots.
This class is open to students of all levels, including non-dancers who wish to learn or gain greater proficiency on the doumbek. BONUS, she also brings frame drums and riqs so you can experiment with different forms of percussion as you like.
Dancers, become one with your music. An ideal way to expand your dance knowledge is by learning to play classic Middle Eastern rhythms.
Non-dancers: Come enjoy the amazing rhythms, learning and jamming in a fun community experience.
Don’t have a drum? We have a few loaners, and as well there are several local shops where you can snag one. Try Guitar Center, Trading Musician, and of course good old Amazon. While doumbeks are preferred, frame drums, riqs/tambourines are also suitable.
Sample doumbek that is a good choice has a synthetic head and flush screws: https://www.amazon.com/Meinl-Percussion-HE-3018-Engraved-Synthetic/dp/B0033PQV66
About Jane Hall
“Jane Hall has been studying and performing Arabic percussion for many years in a variety of settings world-wide. She saw a Monet painting once at the Seattle Art Museum. In that moment she came to realize the enormity and importance of art and music in the world. Since then, she strives for the perfection seen those years ago.”
