Learn the Sanskrit Names of the Yoga Poses
with Shelley Christopherson, ERYT
Have you ever been curious about the Sanskrit names of the yoga poses (yogāsanas)? Do you want to increase your knowledge and experience of these names to broaden your teaching repertoire, or just have in your yoga tool box?
There is a subtle physiology connected to every sound of the Sanskrit alphabet. These sounds ignite and create patterns when spoken aloud, or when heard. Each name of the yogāsanas has its own pattern and power imbedded within it.
When we include the Sanskrit names of these āsanas in our practice and teaching methodology, it allows a vibrant opportunity to experience these poses on an enlivened level. We will explore the physiology of the subtle body, marma points, and how they connect with the Sanskrit alphabet.
You do not need to be a yoga teacher to take this workshop. Everyone can benefit from the vibrational journey that is Sanskrit! Plus, it's so much fun to be able to say the postures in the language of yoga!

Shelley Christopherson has been practicing yoga and meditation since 2001. She studied Comparative Religions at San Diego State University, and the University of Colorado at Denver 1998-2005, where she fell in love with Eastern religion, spirituality and philosophy. She received her RYT200 from Ashtanga and Iyengar-based school, Axis Yoga, in Denver in 2005. The past 10 years have to been devoted to Sanskrit studies with Dr. Katy Komenda. This practice has deepened her awareness of the subtle body, bridged an endless awakening to the ancient texts, and inspired a deep love for the language of the yoga tradition. She has taught all over the state of Alaska, and is currently residing in Anchorage with her family.
Deha Yoga is incredibly honored to host Shelley once again and we sincerely hope you do not miss out on this opportunity to practice with such an experienced teacher! <3
