Mid 2016 the project and visual diary FaceConscious was conceived, now comprising of over 500 designs.
This project was born from the intention of recording my internal state, as I was finishing a long period of depression where I’d lost connection with myself and my feelings, to increase my drawing skills in a fun and sustainable way, induce discipline and to reach a place of free flow creative self expression on a daily basis. What was not expected was the intense healing power that this process is delivering!
I have found a voice and healing through self expression in a discipline dictated by my passion for creation and art. I create surreal faces on a daily bases that depict what I’m doing, thinking and/or feeling.
Any form of constructive creation and reflection can serve as a mirror, one that can be analyzed and look into more clearly. It is a way of putting energy outside of ourselves that needs to get out, that needs to be expressed. Cultivating a daily creative practice, that reflects and builds upon our own passion, is a way of keeping our energy flow clear and creating a pathway of communication between our conscious and unconscious self.
FaceConscious advocates for constructive self expression, using all kinds of art forms to convey the message that following ones own hearts desire, and exploring and sharing ones innermost feelings is the path to a truly fulfilling and connected life. Through connecting authentically with oneself, one can then connect authentically with others. Leading by example, FaceConscious believes that self expression ends repression.
