ZIBA is a world music outfit conceptualised by the Indian guitar virtuoso Mr. Amyt Datta and is five of the most diversely talented musicians coming together for life, love and roots. From Calcutta to Mali. From Middle East to Tribal Bengal. Stories. Colours. Dance. Celebration.
On ZIBA by the man who created it :
“Beautiful” is what ZIBA means. Beauty is the essence of all artistic thoughts. In fact, whether its sound, colour or visual.... the beauty, if it is there, catches an artist's fancy. It influences me and I try to incorporate that expression through my craft. A combined appreciation of all these feeds my ‘art’. ZIBA is a result of this notion. This band has the potential to reach people in a direct , simplistic way, in a mood of festivity. The rhythms are hot and primal and makes your body move. The melodies are rootsy and sometimes traditional ( santhali to African,Hindi to French). The apparent ‘harmony can be simple till one digs down into the deep and starts to discover the sophistication and complexities. What is most fascinating is that the hidden similarities and the morphing of varied musical devices that works within the sphere of this music . I needed to retain a structural format which identifies with pop music .. at the same time I wanted to use the improvisational aspects within the the parameters of this musical style. The sonic canvas is so huge that it is hard to label this subject of music... For lack of an exact name some call it World Music."
