The Dey Mansion is hosting another lecture on Bergen County and its militia as part of its 2018 lecture series. Special guest Robert J. Shanahan, Jr., Esq. will explore Outwater’s Militia and how culture, economics, and religion ultimately shaped their rebellion during the American Revolution.
About the Speaker:
Bob is a partner in the firm of Shanahan & Voigt, located in Flemington, New Jersey. He concentrates his practice in the areas of elder law, including guardianships, Medicaid planning, powers of attorney, estate planning and probate.
Bob obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with honors, from William Paterson University in 1981. He obtained his law degree from Temple University in 1985, and was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in the same year. He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and its Elder and Disability Law Section, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the Hunterdon County Bar Association, where he served as President in the 2010-2011 term.
Bob is active in the community, serving as a member of the Hunterdon Medical Center Bio-Ethics Committee, and Former President of the Board of Trustees of Volunteer Guardianship, One on One, an organization which provides volunteer guardians for those who have no one to act on their behalf, and a Trustee for Valley Crest Farm, a non-profit farm which raises food for Norwescap and local food banks.
Bob also serves as the Quartermaster for Outwater’s Militia, a Revolutionary War Re-enactment unit, portraying Captain John Outwater’s Company of Bergen County Militia. He founded the group in 1979, and he has done considerable research and writing regarding the Revolutionary War in New Jersey.
The event will be held at the Dey Mansion in Wayne, located at 199 Totowa Road. The lecture begins promptly at 1:00PM.
