*** ARCHAEOLOGY IN THE CITY’S EXCITING SOCIAL EVENT ***
Hello everyone - Resa Nelson and Rebecca L. Hearne here. We run Archaeology in the City 2018; the student-led volunteer programme for outreach and participation activities at the Department of Archaeology at the University of Sheffield. Anyone can join - all years are welcome, from undergrads to Masters and PhDs, and lecturers too. It’s free, it’s fun, and it’s great for your brain, your confidence, and your CV.
At Archaeology in the City, we are responsible for running school sessions (going into local schools and delivering archaeology learning sessions to pupils).
We are organising an immersive and exciting heritage festival at Ecclesall Woods Discovery Centre which will take place this year on 28th May (bank holiday Monday). There are lots of opportunities for involvement in the planning and delivery of this large-scale public event.
We also run a popular (and very busy!) monthly lecture and podcast series called Archaeology & Ale. This takes place on the last Thursday of every month, 6-7pm, upstairs at The Red Deer - Sheffield pub on Pitt Street. This requires, most importantly, recording, editing, and uploading the lecture as a podcast onto the Archaeology Podcast Network.
Archaeology in the City is hosting a social event at DINA Venue (Charles Street, city centre) on the evening of Thursday 5th April, 7-10pm. Please come and join us for a drink at this favourite, friendly, not-for-profit community arts venue as we introduce ourselves, update you on what Archaeology in the City has been up to lately, and share how YOU can get involved in community engagement and outreach and become an ambassador for the department.
We will also be announcing the details of an exciting competition (with fancy, exciting prizes to be won).
So come one, come all; everyone’s welcome. Bring your grannies, archaeology-enthusiast neighbours, first dates and housemates. We’ll see you at DINA on Thursday 5th April, and WE WILL. HAVE. FUN.
