This month, we're focused on nanotechnology and conservation! Take a look at our many activities included with admission and start planning your day of DISCOVERY! Skip the line and purchase your tickets in advance, and remember, parking is always FREE in the garage behind the museum.
April 2 - 6
This week we are celebrating the smallest of sciences, Nanotechnology! Join us as we learn about the science of “small things” and how they influence our lives.
Investigate the properties of a cornstarch and water mixture and learn how similar nanomaterials can be used to create personal protective equipment. We'll also explore various types of nanostructures and create art inspired by their forms, shapes and patterns!
Join us as we explore the diverse, endemic species of Nevada. In addition, learn what it means for a plant or animal to be “endemic”.
Explore the works of British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist, Andy Goldsworthy. Create works of art inspired by his unique techniques, learn what plant conservation is, why it is important, and what you can do to help save different plants in Nevada!
Discover artist Andreas Lie and his series "Norwegian Woods" that merges portraits of Norwegian animals with the landscapes in which they live. Lie’s images reflect a deep appreciation for nature and the wildlife that inhabits the wilderness near his home.
Join us for a discussion concerning the terms used for animal conservation. What does it mean for an animal listed as “concerned”, “Invasive”, or “endangered?” Learn how you can help save wildlife, and make a mask to represent an endangered animal.
Celebrating Earth Day
Celebrate our planet by designing a colorful collage that illustrates Earth! Use various materials to create a poster that inspires others to take action and protect our unique planet and join us as we create leaf prints in celebration of Earth day and Arbor day and discuss what makes earth day important for our communities and ourselves.
April 28 - April 30
Eco Friendly Art
Join us as we practice upcycling and design an eco-friendly masterpiece!
Discover Nang Yai, a form of shadow play found in Thailand, and make your own Nang Talung or “small shadow puppet” theatre characters.
Get ready for an engineering challenge! Design, make, and test your very own bridge using eco-friendly materials.
Learn how to create artwork from recycled everyday materials!
