Latin dancing seems to have been created specifically for moms and their babies; the hip movements singular to Salsa dancing are very similar to the rocking motion of a pregnant woman as well as the movements a mother would naturally use to soothe her child. Salsa is soothing for a baby, since the rocking movements bring them back to the time they spent in utero. Your baby will love being swayed while in direct contact with you.
Salsa is an exercise that mothers can safely practice shortly after they have given birth. We recommend that your child be at least 6 – 8 weeks old, to ensure that your baby has started to be able to support their head and neck. By the time a baby is able to do this a mother has normally recovered enough to begin exercising.
When you come to class, be sure to wear comfortable clothing that allows movement. Babywearing Latin Dance is a great workout, and as your baby grows bigger, the workout will intensify! We also recommend you bring a water bottle and a change of clothes for your baby. You can do the class barefoot, in no-slip socks or indoor sneakers. Make sure you bring your own baby carrier to class, many models are available, so use the one that you find the most comfortable.
