Wisconsin's acoustic roots duo, The DitchLilies, have been in musical cahoots since 1998. Kari Larson and Lisa Schultz are stringed multi-instrumentalists/vocalists with a soft spot and keen enthusiasm for early swing, European roots, juke joint and old-time country music. Together they turn back in time to dust off the rare and forgotten tunes or to re-work the familiar tried and true melodies with the aim of carrying them forward to share with audiences of today. Variously tender and bold, imaginative and well-honed, The DitchLilies bring a refreshing sound to the roots music revival. http://theditchlilies.com/home.html
Kari Larson is a seasoned and passionate multi-instrumentalist and an accomplished luthier. She has been playing things with strings more or less all her life. The muses have led her to the early jazz and swing era, to traditional styles from Europe and the Americas, and to many strains of roots music from the US of A. This broad swath of stylistic influences has formed and continues to inform Kari's sound stamp. She discovered early on that she enjoyed studio work, and consequently she appears on many recordings from the West Coast to the Midwest as a side-player. She performed, recorded, and toured nationally as Hull and Larson with Dakota Dave Hull from the mid-90's through 2001. Throughout many musical projects and adventures, Kari's cornerstone has been The DitchLilies.
Lisa Schultz's love for roots music has been life long. As a multi-instrumentalist and song interpreter, she has dedicated decades to listening to, learning and performing the music that peaked her interest in moments. Eventually sets evolved into ballads from west Virginia, sweet folk tunes from the mountains of South America, villages in Europe or weddings in Italy, western swing from Texas, and barrel house songs from the dance floors of America. Performances include Lisa with an arch top guitar, mandolin, banjo and most notably her strong and unique vocals.
