Dublin Arts Council will host a free community conversation in conjunction with the current exhibition Urur Dhex-Dhexaad Ah: Community In-Between at the Dublin Arts Center, 7125 Riverside Dr., Dublin, Ohio on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. The gathering also provides a final opportunity to experience the exhibition of portraits and profiles of young Somali leaders who are actively contributing to the central Ohio community and beyond. The exhibition closes Nov. 3.
Guest curators Qorsho Hassan, a community organizer, researcher and educator, and Ruth Smith, an online lecturer for the Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy at The Ohio State University who has worked extensively with the Somali community in Columbus, will help facilitate an informal conversation about the value of exhibitions and programming highlighting local New American communities.
The pair will be joined by Tariq Tarey and Doug Rutledge, co-curators of the exhibition Bhutanese-Nepali Neighbors, on view through Jan. 7, 2018 at the Ohio History Center. Tarey is a documentary photographer and videographer who specializes in refugee affairs. Rutledge is a writer and editor with many published works, including The Somalia Diaspora: A Journey Away.
Together, the curators and guests will explore topics of integration, immigration and identity, and what they may mean for our collective and individual futures.
The community conversation in Dublin is the final installment in a series that was created by Dublin Arts Council and Ohio History Connection, recognizing the synergies between the organizations’ exhibitions and embracing the opportunity to explore a variety of topics of interest to members of the New American community in central Ohio.
The community conversation and exhibition at Dublin Arts Council are free of charge and all are welcome. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additional information can be found at www.dublinarts.org or by calling 614.889.7444.
