Every 3rd Saturday of the month join site steward Sue Bohne along with DTOS in restoring the Library Springs woodlands. This Dundee Township Open Space site is 50 acres of mature oaks and hickories, streams and wetlands. A quiet habitat to numerous birds and mammals, Library Springs is tucked away behind the Dundee Library and the new Wahoo Woods nature play park at 555 Barrington Avenue, East Dundee. You can park in the library's parking lot and follow the trails till you hear the sound of chainsaws. Or, you can park at the Dundee Township Park District's Rakow Fitness Center parking lot, near the diving well, and follow the trails back to the work area.

Training, information on native plant and wildlife identification, as well as local ecology will be provided.

Please come prepared to work outdoors. Wear: close toed shoes, long socks, long pants, a work shirt with adequate coverage, tie long hair back, a sun blocking hat in warm weather, a warm hat in cold weather, and if using bug repellent please apply it before entering the natural areas.

In cold weather when the burning of brush piles is done, you will want to wear coats, snow pants and winter gear that can withstand the occasional spark drifting from the burn pile. You may want to remove jewelry It is recommended to bring water or a drink and a snack. The sharing of snacks is highly smiled upon.

Work gloves and safety glasses are provided. Herbiciding is only done by licensed practicioners after volunteers have cleared an area and have moved to another location. The general herbicide is squirted or dabbed; there is no misting that drifts in the air. The herbicide is dyed blue so volunteers can see where it's been applied.

The operating of chain saws and brush cutters are only performed by certified individuals. Ear protection is provided and required to be worn by anyone working with or near chain saws and brush cutters.

Workdays are for all ages. Even children with adult supervision can cut brush with loppers and or drag it to a burn pile. 14-17 yr. old minors do not need to be accompanied with their guardian but must bring an annual waiver and a permission waiver signed by their guardian. Waivers are available on our website www.dundeetownship.org/index.php Those under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Workdays are a great way for students to earn community service hours.

Even though our workdays are 9-12pm, you can come and go as your schedule allows. We appreciate any volunteer help :)
