Coffee with a Cop was established in 2011 and has since become a national incentive that is supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The goal is for Coffee with a Cop to become a regular event within our community. It is our belief that increased focus on community policing can start with something as simple as a cup of coffee.
The program offers an opportunity to meet local officers and discuss community issues. Staff from the Elyria Police Department and community members will be gathering in a casual atmosphere to build trust through open communication and to drink coffee.
Coffee with a Cop will give residents a chance to meet the officers, supervisors and command staff – who are all part protecting your community. We would like to create an environment that is different from the emergency situations that often serve as the sole interaction that the community has with the police. Thus, there will be an open dialog without constraints during the one-on-one conversations about current issues, the department’s efforts, or any other topic of interest.
