Six-Week Barre-Body Beginners Course - £90

15th April to 20th May 2018
Every Sunday, 10:30 - 11:30am

(minimum of 4 students for the course to commence)

A 6-week course for beginners designed to tone your entire body, creating longer, leaner muscles. Ballet & Pilates exercises at the barre and on the mat tone your muscles, while complementary yoga postures lengthen and shape your muscles (think long & lean like a ballet dancer!)

The course is aimed at complete beginners who have never done Barre before. We encourage all ages and abilities to give it a try, exercises are performed with the support of the Ballet Barre to allow you to focus on the isometric strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles).

However, students who have already practised some Barre and want to deepen their understanding of the wider context of Barre are also very welcome.

It is highly recommended that students attend all six sessions to get the maximum benefit from the course.

Course Curriculum:

Week one

Basic positions and principles of the Barre-Body Workout referencing key ballet and pilates terminology. Introduction to key posture cues and alignment. Introduction to breathing techniques

Week two

Focus at the Barre. Working on key leg movements to increase strength and mobility. Particular attention will be paid to posture and alignment. Introduction to some key movements, their purpose and benefits. Exercises covered will include, Plies, Fondues, Eleves and Battements Tendu
Short floor practice and stretching sequence.

Week three

Focus at the Barre. Revisit key lower body movements, adding in advanced modifications. Introduction to key upper body movements that also aim to strengthen the core by focusing on alignment. Short floor practice and stretching sequence

Week Four

Focus on The Centre Workout. Introduction of hand weights, resistance bands and other props to work the upper body to increase strength and endurance. Introduction to key balance movements that demonstrate progression from the Barre. Exercises covered will include developpes, arabesques and attitudes. Short at the Barre and stretching sequence.

Week Five

Focus on Floor Work. Attention will be paid to a wide variety of exercises that work the abdomen and upper body
Breathwork and body positioning will be incorporated to achieve maximum benefits. Short at the Barre and stretching sequence.

Week Six

Bringing together everything we have covered so far into a full Barre-Body Workout including Barre work, in the Centre, Floorwork and Final Stretches. Another chance to ask questions. Guidance on where to go next with your Barre Workouts.
