A Six Week Beginners/Improvers Ballet Course for Adults - £90
(minimum of 4 students for the course to commence)

From 21st April to 26th May
Every Saturday, 12:30 - 13:30

This 6-week adult ballet course is for beginners, improvers or people with knowledge of ballet. It is open to all levels, all ages. The classes will gradually improve your physical balletic posture and strength through the regular exercises, alongside teaching the general layout of a ballet class, names for steps and an understanding of the technique behind each sequence and routine.

Natasha Trigg, your instructor danced with The Sarasota Ballet Company in Florida, Murley Dance Company, The New English Ballet Theatre, London Contemporary Ballet Theatre and The English National Ballet performing in Swan Lake at the Royal Albert Hall. She’s calm, kind and believes in making Ballet fun and approachable...we're so lucky to have someone like Natasha teaching at Ebb&Flow.

Exercises will start very simple and gradually build as the dancer becomes more familiar and comfortable with the classical ballet techniques. Necessary alterations will be given to dancers with injuries. Expect to be corrected in a positive, kind and instructive way regularly, this is for your total benefit in grasping the classical technique.

The class will start at the barre. Gently beginning with a warm-up before going through every exercise that takes place at the barre. Each exercise will be demonstrated by Natasha and throughout the course the dancer will become more confident with the layout of a ballet class, the technique and expectations of what she or he is striving to achieve. After the Barre work has finished, the class will move to the “Centre” where we will work on exercises without the barre. Although Ballet is a discipline, the class will be light-hearted and a place to ask as many questions as you may need. The music will be a mixture of classical and contemporary modern music.

Throughout this course, you will learn the correct posture and technique of classical ballet. The layout of the class, exercises and the meanings of the ballet terms. You will see a difference in your flexibility and how to engage the correct muscles to get maximum improvement in positions. You will learn specific ballet stretches to improve your flexibility and strength. It is highly recommended that you attend all six sessions get maximum benefit from the course.

Course Curriculum

Week 1

Overview of a ballet class, grasping the exercises at the barre and the centre to familiarise with the layout of class. Basic Introduction to correct posture and alignment whilst doing exercises.

Week 2

As posture becomes stronger and a more familiar understanding of the layout of the class, gradually exercises will become more complicated and added steps will be demonstrated. A simple barre will take place and a few exercise in the centre to introduce the understanding of shifting weight and engaging the muscles a dancer needs to balance without the barre

Week 3

By this week the dancer will have a firm understanding of how the class runs, this allows less focusing on steps and more on technique, now the dancer will start to understand how to engage the correct muscles and can start pushing the body more. We will be focusing on flexibility and adding balances to the class.

Week 4

Barre work will be demonstrated faster and the dancer will be expected to pick up exercises quicker whilst warming up the body correctly for the centre. During the centre work we will be adding in adage, and preparation for pirouettes.

Week 5

Focusing on putting our learnt technique into practice with a full Barre and centre work of tendues, pirouettes, adage and a travelling sequence, finishing with small jumps.

Week 6

Bringing together everything learnt that we have covered so far into a full ballet class. A warm up Barre and Centre work so you feel confident and strong with a full understanding of correct technique for ballet.
