Deborah Kerr aimed to document a day in the life of a newspaper when she began filming a documentary about the Tampa Tribune, the hometown newspaper that had been in circulation for more than 120 years. When the Tampa Bay Times purchased the Tribune in 2016, it became a film about the closure of the Tribune, a rally call against the decline of print journalism. Stop the Presses depicts the unraveling of the local newspaper through the eyes of its 600+ staff, and the community which it had long served. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker.
The event will be held in Miller Auditorium.
This event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Current newspaper, Eckerd Library, and the Department of Communication
