Drive For Rebecca 22/04/2018

I am sure most of you have heard through the press and social media about a very brave little Erskine girl Rebecca McKenna.

There is a charity car run being held to raise funds for Rebecca with a suggested donation of £5.00 per car. The run is taking place on Sunday the 22nd of April 2018 at 09:00 and is meeting at Ecotune Scotland Ltd, Unit 10, 36 Dalziel Road, Hillington Park Industrial Estate, Glasgow, G52 4NN.

We will be leaving EcoTune at Approx 10:30 and heading to Kenmore via the stunning winding roads around Loch Lomond, There will be a stop at The Drovers Inn around 1 hour into the trip where you can grab yourself some light bites and refreshments before setting off again around 13:00 to get to our destination which is Kenmore. We will have a very brief stop here to give everyone a chance to group up before heading off towards Crieff where we will have a stop off again approx 1 hour into the drive at the Crieff Hydro where again you can get yourself some refreshments. We will then leave here and head to Ikea Braehead where we will finish our run park up and have a chat.

This is a charity run and we would ask everyone that is attending to drive within the speed limits and drive in a careful manner respecting other road users.

Please see below for Rebecca’s Story and remember to share this event with your friends. All types of vehicles are welcome from classic, custom, American, Sports, Performance, Supercars & Bikes Etc. Please only click going if you are able to attend so that we can judge the numbers.

Rebecca’s Story

Rebecca was diagnosed with a rare Children's cancer (Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma) on 31st of January 2018.

Neuroblastoma is a rare and aggressive disease that affects around 100 children each year in the UK. It has the highest mortality rate than any other children cancer.

By the time of her diagnosis, Rebecca primary tumours were in her tummy and in her adrenal glands just above her kidneys. The disease then spread to her bone marrow and finally her bones.

The treatment she is on is very intense, given over a 12/18 month period. Rebecca is currently receiving 90 days of Rapid COJEC Chemotherapy. After that, she will have surgery to remove the main tumour followed by another round of high dose chemo, a stem cell transplant and finally 3 weeks of radiotherapy. Even after putting her through chemotherapy, countless surgeries and aggressive radiotherapy, the chance of relapse within two years is as high as 80%.

Armed with that knowledge, we set out to learn everything we could about the disease and possible treatments. Our search led us to an American drug trial called DFMO. This is a preventative treatment which helps decrease the chance of relapse and the cancer returning. Unfortunately this isn’t a treatment available on the NHS yet and we need your help to get us on that trial.

To be eligible for the trial, we need Rebecca to be cancer free for 120 days and raise £140,000 to pay for treatment and costs associated. This is a huge amount to raise and we know it will not be without its difficulties but we have to try.

We all know someone affected by cancer, whether it’s a parent, grandparent, son or daughter. You would do anything you could to make them well again and we are no different. This isn’t the first time cancer has devastated our family and while we know the loss and pain it can bring, we won’t let it win this time. We need any donation, no matter how big or small, to help get Rebecca well again and back to being the bravest little girl we know.

We have started a JustGiving page to help raise the funds and will be carrying out loads of charity events, running races etc to help towards our goal.

We ask that you give what you can and to share this event, along with the twitter and instagram to get us as much help as possible.

Thank you x
