About DJ Boogieman:

DJ Boogieman has been deejaying from1969 -2018 (49 years) and has Managed/Owned approximately 81 venues during this period.

• Durban, 1978 - 1981 – (Owner Rollers Disco - Mayfair Hotel) - (DJ. Travolta’s - Killarney Hotel) – (DJ Millionaires Club - Palm Beach Hotel) - (Partner & DJ - Nellos Night Club, Smith St) – (Owner - Faces on the Dancefloor, College Lane) – (Owner - Naughties, Stanger Street)

• JHB: 1981 -1994 Noted venues I have run/owned: (Manager/ Lessee - Chelsea Theatre, Chelsea Hotel, Hillbrow) – (Manger - King of Clubs, Market Street) – (Owner/Manager - Decodance, Market Street) – (Owner - Junction (1-2 & 3), Claim Street, Jeppe Street, Ponti Berea) - Decodance & Junction are still fondly remembered by the clubbers (now adults) from the 80’s. Reunion parties are run successfully annually by ex deejays & friends at venues around JHB.

• Cape Town: 2002 – 2006. I moved to Cape Town and Dj’d freelance. By 2002 (58 years old) I felt I may have outgrown being a Dj and decided to become a Commercial Property Broker specializing in the leasing, and sales of night clubs, bars, restaurants and hotels. I was very successful but continued deejaying private parties.

• Cape Town: Some time in 2004 while I was still a property broker I was made aware of a small venue coming available at a new development of the Old Biscuit Mill in Salt River. I felt there was a gap in the club market for 70’s & 80’s music catering to the over 30’s crowd. I leased the premises and opened Decodance Underground. It was very successful and after 4 years I had to find a bigger venue which I found on the Atlantic Seaboard and moved Decodance Underground to Main Road Seapoint under Club Decodance. The following that the new Club Decodance built up extended its support to the whole peninsular from as far as Gordons Bay, Simons town, Table View and Stellenbosch. The success was based on drawing an early crowd for which I specialized playing hits from my 70’s/80’s playlist. After 5 years successful years, I decided to retire from the club business and sold Decodance and moved to George.

During the 9 years as owner & DJ at my Decodance clubs in Cape Town, I built a large mature following due to specializing in retro club dance hits. I was also a favorite Dj’ing for “Ladies Hen Parties” My following crosses all age groups, although the 35 to 65 age group are my most loyal supporters due to my playlist . The reason for this is because most events are catering to the younger crowd via “doof doof” hip hop rave & techno’ Many of the “Baby Boomers” are financially secure and still wish to go clubbing occasionally but are not catered for as far as rock/alternative dance music is concerned.

As a DJ, I have a novelty promotion advantage over younger DJ’s. At 73 years old, I am the oldest professional Dj in S.A. I have 49 years’ experience in Retro dance hits. I can vary my playlist to suit my crowd via requests. I have accumulated a large collection of vinyl’s over the last 49 years and still use turntables when required. I have converted many of my collectable vinyl tracks to mp3.
