El Boliche is baaaack! This week our feature musician is Alberto Mastra, who passed away 10 April 1976. He was a renowned guitarist, as well as being a composer, and lyricist (and a great friend of Troilo, apparently). He composed some of the all time favourite milongas, like Maldonado, El Criollito Oriental. So you will be dancing to his milongas tomorrow.
Interesting factoid of the day: the famous milonga "El Criollito Oriental" is apparently not, as you might expect, about someone with an Asian background. Rather, "Uruguayans are referred to, even by themselves, as orientals because they come from the eastern part of the River Plate, which forms the border between Argentina and Uruguay."
Thanks to Paul Bottomer, and hear the track here:
EL BOLICHE: 3 hours of lovely tango music from DJ Yuko. Also a good place to just come and dance, or chat, or drink Polish beer, or pretty good wines by the glass..
Only $12 (free for your non-dancing friends).
