The Runnels Gallery is pleased to present selections for the K through ENMU Ninth Annual Juried Community Youth Art Exhibition; the gallery received close to 200 individual creative works this year. The exhibition was free to enter and open to public, private and homeschooled students, ranging in age from kindergarten through the senior level of college, who lived within a 200 mile radius of Eastern New Mexico University.
The schools represented this year included Clovis High School (NM), Clovis High School Freshman Academy (NM), Dillman Elementary School (NM), Dora Consolidated School (NM), Eastern New Mexico University (NM), Elida Municipal Schools (NM), Farwell High School (TX), Farwell Junior High School (TX), Floyd Municipal Schools (NM), Fort Sumner High School (NM), Fort Sumner Middle School (NM), Highland Middle School (NM), James Elementary School (NM), Marshall Middle School (NM), Melrose Elementary School (NM), Mesa Elementary School (NM), Muleshoe High School (TX), Texico High School (NM), and Watson Junior High School (TX).
The jury panel consisted of four members; three professional artists and one lover of art. The panel adjudicated the work based on three areas:
First Impression: How powerful is the first impression?
Creativity: To what degree of originality and creativity does the work have?
Artist’s Voice: Is the artist’s voice felt in the work and can his/her personal perspective of the world around him/her be seen?
Scores from all four jurist were averaged together to determine Best of Show and division placement winners. The artist with the highest average was awarded Best of Show. The remaining highest scores determined first, second and third placements within the following divisions:
Elementary Division (kindergarten-fourth grade)
Junior High School Division (fifth grade-eight grade)
High School Division (freshman-senior/high school level)
College Division (freshman-senior/college level).
Best of Show and other placement winners will be announced at an awards ceremony, Friday, April 6, 7 p.m. in Buchanan Hall, located within the ENMU Music Building.
Please help encourage artists in your community to participate in K through ENMU. The annual exhibition is an important opportunity for young aspiring artists and designers to share their creative contributions with a larger audience beyond their classmates and families.
