In celebration of spring, we will be felting little planet earths as well as some of her fabulous creatures. Using all natural, sustainable, renewable, and biodegradable wool, you learn wet and dry felting. You will create earth balls to hang as ornaments or mobiles, use as dryer balls, cat and dog toys, or give as gifts. We will be using cookie cutter shapes for the creation of creatures great and small, such as elephants, ducks, cows, coyotes, dolphins, and, of course, sheep. All supplies are included. At the end of a fun and engaging class, take home your creations to share and honor our shared home, EARTH.

Making Itty Bitty Churro Sheep
with Nadina Barnes
Saturday April 14 , 12:00PM – 4:00PM
Fun for Free, No Registration Required, Appropriate for age 7+
Navajo-Churro sheep are the local heritage sheep of New Mexico. Introduced to this area by Spanish settlers in the 1600s, they are now considered a rare breed. These sheep with their long staple of protective top coat and soft undercoat are well suited to extremes of climate. Join us in celebrating this heritage breed by making these little bitty pipe cleaner and wool churro sheep. They’re easy to make and fun for all ages. This is a free offering so drop by and play.

Community Picnic, Fiber Arts & Sheep Shearing
at Los Luceros
Sunday, April 15, 9:00AM – 3:00PM
Sheep Sheering at Los Luceros. Bring the whole family for an exciting day at the historical site of Los Luceros. You will experience how sheep get their haircut, and how their wool is spun into yarn. During the day we will offer demonstrations of fleece skirting and sheep registration, and you can tour the Los Luceros Hacienda and Chapel.
There will also be a screening of the documentary An Unbroken Thread: Wool & Weaving in Northern New Mexico.
Bring your lunch and join us for a picnic at 12noon. All events are FREE! Suggested Donation of $5 per vehicle at the gate.
