In this "outback noir" set in Australia, troubled indigenous Detective Jay Swan (Aaron Pedersen, Mystery Road) arrives in the frontier mining town of Goldstone to investigate the disappearance of a young woman, where he is arrested for drunk driving by young local cop Josh (Alex Russell). When Jay's motel room is blasted with gunfire, it becomes clear that something larger is at play. While struggling to overcome their mutual distrust, Jay and Josh uncover a web of crime and corruption, trampling of land rights and human trafficking. As he begins to piece together the truth with a dogged determination, while dodging bullets and nursing hangovers, Jay must pull his life together and set aside his personal differences with Josh so that they can mutually bring justice to Goldstone.
With an all-star cast including Jacki Weaver, David Wenham, the great David Gulpilil (Walkabout, Tracker) Cheng Pei-pei, Michelle Lim Davidson and Tom E. Lewis, Goldstone is a taut, intelligent thriller encompassing the environment, corruption, politics, corporate greed, tradition and mythology.
Directed by Ivan Sen, Australia, 2016, 110 mins. In English and Mandarin with English subtitles.
