This May we return to Factory, welcoming two of our favourite guests we've had over the last four years for a special night of quality music and dancing.
Three years ago to the month we invited Medlar to join us and were left seriously impressed with his incredible record selection, and also his great personality, both on and off the decks. We are blessed in the South West with plenty of natural beauties, and last time we hosted Medlar we did a pre party at one of our cities wonderful spots on the Hoe and danced 'til the tide came in before heading to Factory - we will be doing the same for this one in a very similar location; full details on this one coming soon.
Sam Hall is another familiar face to us and good friend, having been a resident for Vivify at his later time in university before moving back to Bristol. Since moving back he has gained deserved recognition through his work at Idle Hands which has subsequently seen him hand picked as part of the Dimensions DJ Directory. Sams record collection is second to none and his knowledge is impeccable, with his upcoming Few & Far Between label about to take off it's an exciting time for Sam and we are delighted to have him back.
As ever with us expect nothing but good times, good people and most importantly good music throughout. We look forward to dancing in the Summer months with you all.
Tickets coming soon.
The first Medlar productions surfaced in 2012 following several years of DJing and releasing under different aliases. Several EPs and a full length LP on Wolf Music preceded releases on Phonica, Delusions of Grandeur, On Loop, Riverette, For Discos Only & West Friends (the label launched by his friends and part time employers at the Rye Wax record shop in Peckham).
Whilst taking in disparate influences, productions and DJ sets remain within the broad context of house music. He's also found success as a remix artist, with regular commissions for indie labels (Bordello A Parigi, BBE, Black Acre & Tsuba amongst others) and majors alike, for artists such as Tensnake, Groove Armada & Disclosure.
There is a balance of fun and accessibility with experimentation in his DJ sets, which have taken him around the world over the last 6 years.
Sets have been increasingly defined by the inclusion of his own exclusive edits of genres spanning disco, Italo and electro, kraut rock, dub and breakbeat hardcore to name a few. Originally created only for himself and close friends, some of these have resulted in official releases on seminal disco labels West End and TK Disco. Fans of Medlar productions & edits cover a diverse list of influential selectors from DJ Harvey and Gilles Peterson to DJ Koze, Midland and Soulwax.
2018 sees a continued steady production and touring schedule, with releases penned for Delusions of Grandeur, Me Me Me and West Friends amongst others.
Sam Hall is a 26 year old DJ from Bristol. He was born in Liverpool and moved to Bristol at an early age, surrounding himself with the exciting musical culture that the city has to offer. Through a passion of electronic music, Sam eventually found his niche in the genres of House and Techno. This led him to develop a keen interest in old classic records whilst still keeping up to date with modern day releases. His sets consist of a variety of these two genres with influences taken from late 80's and 90's records and DJ's from Chicago, Detroit and the UK.
Through his work at Idle Hands record store in Bristol which boasts the likes of Shanti Celeste and Kowton as former employees, Sam has managed to gain a massive insight into the scene and can be seen behind the counter selling records and sharing the music he loves with customers.
Sam has a weekly feature on the esteemed Stamp The Wax blog entitled 'Bin Digging: £1 Records' where he shows his digging prowess by sharing records that he's unearthed in bargain bin crates, charity shops and car boot sales across the world.
Gaining a reputation for having an extensive knowledge of the music he plays and slowly creating a following throughout the South West and further afield with gigs in other major UK cities and abroad, Sam is one to keep a close eye on.
Support coming from Lightworks, Mattiik, Oscar & Hocking, Connor Lyne, Saeph & Who Cares.
House, Disco, Techno, Italo, Acid, Afro, Boogie and other such niceties throughout.
Dancing feet essential.
