Yin-Yang Yoga (Weekly Class)

This yin-yang harmonizing, all-levels class that opens with ~20-25 minutes of heating yang style (i.e., hatha and/or vinyasa) yoga followed by ~50-55 minutes yin style yoga.

The yang flow series that opens the class works with heating standing and sitting postures, working and strengthening the belly of muscles, shaking off the day, opening, grounding and centering ourselves for the more inward journey we'll take with yin series in the second part of class.

Yin yoga uses mostly seated postures. While in these postures, we practice applying the breath to still the mind-body in the posture, while holding the stretch of the posture at a comfortable “edge" zone for a longer duration (e.g., 3-5 minutes or more). This allows the body time to work with the natural downward force of gravity and the mind time to connect and expand with the simple deep natural breathing. This mindful approach results in helping the body find new stretch and space at the level of the connective tissues, ends of muscles, the joints (vs belly of the muscles) leaving one more physically and mentally centered and balanced. Please note that this is a relaxing practice, but it is not the same as a restorative practice.

It is great for beginner and veteran yogis, all athletes and non-athletes and it is great complement to any wellness and fitness routine. There is goodness in this balanced style of stretching to be found by just about everyone!

This class is followed by a meditation class. The meditation class is 1/2 price ($7) for those yin-yangers that choose to stay! Purchase at the Center when you come to class.
