In this 5 hour workshop, weavers of all levels (yes, even the brand new ones!) are given the chance to explore weave structures on a pre-warped table loom. It gives beginner weavers a chance to get their feet wet, and intermediate weavers a chance to shake up their weaving habits and try out some odd-seeming ideas without committing a whole warp to it.
A wide selection of weft yarns and unconventional materials will be made available for free experimentation. Techniques demonstrated consist of twill or huck lace textures on 4 shafts; hand-manipulated pickup patterns; Soumak; Leno lace; weaving with wood, wire, plant materials, and unspun fiber; rya knots, knotted warp fringe, and planning for hanging hardware.
This class encourages improvisation, testing, and experimentation.
The students will take home a wall hanging or a piece for any other purpose they decide.
All materials are included!
