In their remote home in the North Atlantic, the Faroe Islanders have always eaten what nature could provide, proud to put local food on the table. Hunting whales and seabirds kept them alive for generations, but today they face a grave threat to this tradition. It is not the controversy surrounding whaling that threatens the Faroese way of life, but rather the polluted seas that are contaminating this vital food source. What once secured their survival now endangers their children and they now must make a choice between health and tradition. This stunning documentary received its European Premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2016.
Following a string of international festival awards including DOC NYC Grand Jury Prize, Hotdocs Emerging International Filmmaker Award and a BAFTA nomination, The Islands And The Whales comes to Filmhouse for this special Q&A screening with director Mike Day on Tue 10 April at 6.00pm.
