5TK believes that through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities and physical disabilities will discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. The athletes in our own family at 5TK inspired us to develop a program that helps our community understand the value in investing in athletes of all abilities. Through sports, we will help improve the skills and dignity of our athletes.
Our hope is that this program will bring together families and athletes to see and take part in the transformative power of sports. We know the odds our athletes must overcome and the barriers they face every single day and will push our athletes beat their personal bests -- and exceed them through activities and sports.
5TK's vision for our abilities program is to create a community where families can connect with each other building hope and confidence for their athlete. We want to help our athletes build confidence and develop skills that help improve functioning at school, in sporting activities in the community and at home.
5TK will be referring to our participants in this program as athletes because we believe that any person who works hard at building their strength, agility and endurance have the right to be called an athlete. We are passionate about working with these specific athletes because in our lives they have shown us to be the hardest working people around.
5TK will be providing classes for children with specific needs because we know there is a lack of resources out there for these athletes and their families. We want to help our athletes build a foundation where they feel more confident in participating in playground games as well as building basic skills that help improve self-esteem and self-confidence.
5TK will help improve our athletes ability to throw, catch, pass, take turns, kick using a varied curriculum with high energy, positive, encouraging instructors.
Family Day will be a time to meet instructors, play games, eat, meet other families and see our beautiful facility.
I am looking forward to seeing our community come and support this much needed program in our community.
