Dave Onderdonk is a familiar face to Flatts and Sharpe. You may have seen him around the neighborhood. His music is heavily shaped by melodic chops fused through a few different genres: classical, jazz, and blues. The result of this is a very modern sound that emulates the bliss of floating down river on a warm spring day. He is set to take our stage on May 18th at 6:30pm.

A little bit about Dave:

Born in Evanston, Illinois, David Onderdonk studied Classical guitar at the University of Illinois in Urbana, IL. While there he took master classes from Manuel Barrueco, Eduardo Fernandez, and Eliot Fisk. In addition to his classical studies, he also played in the U of I Jazz Big Band under John Garvey. Since then, he has toured in Europe,
Central and South America, and throughout the United States as a Classical guitarist.

As a Jazz guitarist, he has played and/or recorded with Michael Feinstein, Kurt Elling (three Grammy nominated albums), Fareed Haque, Terry Callier, Grazyna Auguscik, Fred Simon, and Marlene Rosenberg. He has also appeared on recordings with Pharoah Sanders, Mavis Staples, Casandra Wilson, Mike Stern, Howard Levy, and Paul McCandless among others. He spent twelve years doing studio work for countless TV commercials as well as a documentary for the A&E network (Narcs) and a movie soundtrack (Off The Map).

David currently teaches at his own studio and at the Music Institute of Chicago. He recently served as Interim Instructor of Guitar at Interlochen Arts Academy.
