Student innovation and hands-on learning will be on display at the Fleming College Innovation and Technology Showcase in partnership with Bell on Thursday, April 12.
The event is a showcase of experiential learning in action. Throughout the winter, students from the School of Business and School of Trades and Technology have worked with sponsors from both private sector businesses and non-profit organizations to find innovative solutions to a business- or technology-related problem. The students gain academic credit and on-the-job experience by undertaking these supervised applied projects. At the same time, the project results provide new information, answer questions, contribute to planning, and lay the groundwork for future innovations.
The projects will be judged with prizes awarded at the conclusion of the Showcase.
The College community and members of the public are invited to attend the event and view the projects, which will be on display from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre.
In addition to the project displays, the Showcase will feature keynote speaker Bryan Bolan at 2 p.m. Bryan worked at Sportsnet for 12 years before starting his own video production company. He’s received industry awards, and praise from colleagues and clients for his creative and innovative work.
“And through it all, my depression continues to play its devilish role, hiding from time to time but never forever. Yet I’m still here. And I can’t wait to tell you why,” he says.
Bryan will reveal his journey as a video producer, creative innovator, entrepreneur, and sufferer of major depressive disorder. Through his presentation, he will share how he copes with the challenges and joys in his business and personal life.
