The aim of the Sea Cadets is to provide training based on a nautical theme following the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy and Her Majesty's Royal Marines. This training will give a child a good head start in life and develop them into a young adult with varying life skills. The Sea Cadets can achieve qualifications that are nationally recognised by employers later on in life, for example BTEC qualifications and waterbourne qualifications from the RYA.

The unit in Folkestone & Hythe has three sections starting with the Junior Sea Cadets (JSC) aged 10 -12 years old. JSC’s carryout different training which is based on some activities that the seniors do but it is more about having fun. They can also take part in competitions such as the swimming gala and rowing competition.

The Sea Cadets are aged 12-18 years old. The Sea Cadets training consists of many qualifications and introduces our youth people to aspects of the Royal Navy. They participate in competitions locally and should the unit do well, they can compete against other units from across the UK. They can also attend weekend camps which focuses on training for promotions.

The Royal Marines Cadets (RMC) aged 13 -18 years old, have a training programme based on Her Majesty’s Royal Marines. The RMC learn about battle skills and attend many weekends in the field. The Royal Marines Cadets have a compulsory weekend called CATSEA which is an assessment in the field (held in September) of the skills learnt at the unit. They can also attend the same courses and competitions open to the Sea Cadets.
The Folkestone & Hythe Sea and Royal Marines Cadets meet each week on a Monday and Thursday Evening 19:00 - 21:20 with JSC’s parading on Monday nights only. We are based in Ross Way, Folkestone opposite KAP.
