Plant Foraging Hike

Get Directions

#var:page_name# cover

During the early days of Texas, settlers to the area had to learn rather quickly the value of the natural resources that were already available to them. They became familiar with the native plants that had both edible and medicinal qualities. Today much of what was often common knowledge on the Texas frontier is now nearly forgotten.

Come take a hike with Tricia Hopkins, a local living historian and avid student of foraging plants, to discover some of the native plants of Fort Griffin that have both edible and medicinal qualities. The hike will begin at 11 am and will last an hour or longer. Please be prepared to hike off the main trail, if necessary. Bring bug spray, as chiggers can be bad this time of year.
