Please join the Friends of Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park on Thursday, April 19, at 7:00 p.m., when New London County Historical Society's Executive Director, Steve Manuel and Associate Director, Kayla Correll, will be presenting a program on the events of Septemer, 6, 1781.
So many of us have walked the ramparts of Fort Griswold where our local militia was overwhelmed and massacred by British troops, we naturally focus on how this affected the Groton locals. Stories abound about the events that took place at Fort Griswold. But what was going on in New London at that time, and what about Benedict Arnold?
Come and hear about Arnold and the 800 British troops in New London, who marched upriver from near the New London Harbor Light, wreaking havoc before burning the New London waterfront to the ground.
The program takes place at Fort Griswold's Monument House Museum on Park Avenue in Groton.
This event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
