CELEBRATE LABOUR DAY WEEKEND AT FOX HARB'R
Young, unconventional, self-made winemaker Andreas Bender is bringing the flavor and style of two important German wine-growing regions -- the Moselle (Mosel) and the Palatinate (Pfalz) -- to Nova Scotia's Fox Harb'r Resort for one very delicious evening, to cap off the 2018 Labour Day weekend.
"The most important thing for me are first-class grapes from the best locations, traditional winemaking and uncompromising quality,"
Born in Leiwen in the Mosel in 1980, Andreas Bender first learnt about soil, viticulture and terroir from his father, a vine propagator, and first made his own wine when he was just thirteen years old.
His winemaker's philosophy is really quite unique in the world of German wine: instead of following the widely accepted model whereby top single vineyards are vinified and bottled separately, he blends them according to three different styles: Dajoar, Paulessen and Hofpäsch. Yet, while many of Andreas' ideas are very modern, when it comes to the winemaking itself, he is very committed to tradition. Andreas is a firm believer in careful cellar work, simple winemaking methods and natural fermentation, all showcased within his Bender Wein wines.
Andreas will collaborate with Fox Harb'r Resort Executive Chef Shane Robilliard on a spectacular six-course wine master's tasting dinner that promises to be a feast for all the senses.
