Volunteer Orientation for our Visitor Center

Get Directions

#var:page_name# cover

Here is a way to deepen your understanding of our coastal islands and wildlife while providing a valuable service to your local wildlife refuge. Become a volunteer at the Visitor Center of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge in Rockland. We especially need help for the summer season, but there are volunteer opportunities year-round. There will be an orientation session on Wednesday, April 11 from 3-5 p.m. The Friends’ group provides a docent program for the wildlife refuge where volunteers can welcome visitors, tell them about the work of seabird conservation, demonstrate how birds are tracked, and connect the beauty of our natural world through the art gallery, along with many other activities. Training will be ongoing with special talks and hands-on experience depending on the type of work you wish to do. Register or call for more information: volunteercoordinator@mainecoastislands.org or 594-0600 x5. If you are unable to come to the orientation, but wish to become part of the Maine Coastal Islands team at the Visitor Center, please contact us.
