Join us for the first-ever reenactment of Colonel and Martha Washington's arrival to the estate in a carriage!

After their marriage on January 6, 1759, George Washington brought his bride, Martha, and her two young children to Mount Vernon for the first time on April 7, 1759. During this reenactment of their arrival, witness the family travel from the West Gate to the Mansion in a horse-drawn carriage, crossing the 12-acre field where Martha Washington glimpses her new home for the first time. When they arrive at the Mansion's front steps, Colonel Washington introduces his bride. Afterwards, the Washington family visits with guests on the piazza from 1-3 pm.

Mary Wiseman, who has portrayed Lady Washington for 16 years, discusses her role as the first First Lady in the Interpretive Center from 1:30-3 pm. From 3:30-4:30 pm, listen to the two interpreters who play Lady Washington and Mrs. Washington as they discuss their interpretive techniques, research, and long-time friendship.
