In the exhibition, Into the Fire, Evan Rensch explores the human perspective of one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, Kilauea has been continuously erupting since 1983. Over this time, it has devastated the surrounding landscape and threatened local residents. Yet in the tiny community of Kalapana, the volcano's constant danger holds no sway, as many people remain transfixed by its captivating energy. Rensch's photographs cast a light on these diverse individuals who willingly confront an environment on the constant the brink of annihilation.
Evan Rensch is an emerging Canadian visual artist who holds a BA degree from Mount Allison University as well as an MFA from NSCAD University. He is the recipient of visual arts grants from Arts NB, Arts NS, and Yukon Department of Tourism & Culture. His work has appeared in exhibitions in Canada and the USA. Currently, he splits his time between Vancouver and Dawson City, Yukon.
